Japanese Form Poetry by SB Wright
afternoon heat
honey makers and honey eaters
at the water’s edge

after Xmas lunch
the quiet of the bathroom
Yuletide log

boxing day torpor
we watch the adds for
hot cross buns

bitter tannins
the sparrow rests on the road
too long

these haiku…
falling almond blossoms
in a spring breeze

rolling thunder
empty grain trucks
in the summer heat

taiko drumbeat
the underpass at
Shin-Osaka

step-by-step
shuffling the stone
in my shoe

in silence –
the rise and fall
of the cat’s purr
